How Long Does a Visit to the Cueva de Nerja Take?
The 50-minute walk
The cave route passes through five linked halls — Vestíbulo, Belén, Cascada, Fantasmas, and Cataclismo — with stairs, railed walkways and electric lights. Fifty minutes is the official figure. If you move slowly and read every sign, you can stretch it to 55 minutes. If you are fit and march quickly, 40 minutes is possible. Most people finish in 48–52 minutes. It is not a sprint; the cave does not rush you out.
Plus arrival and exit
Arrive 10 minutes before your slot time. So if your slot is 10:15, arrive at 10:05. The walk from the car park to the cave entrance is 5 minutes uphill. You will exit the cave by around 11:00 if your slot is 10:15. Add another 5 minutes to walk back to the car park.
Cave plus Nerja town (half day)
The cave (1 hour) plus the Balcón de Europa viewpoint (30 min) and Calle Carabeo old-town street (20–30 min) adds up to 2–3 hours. You can lunch on a terrace for another hour. If you want Tuesday market, the market runs 8:00–14:00, so plan accordingly.
Cave, Nerja and Frigiliana (full day)
